Hello Kitty Hat

Using white yarn follow the Basic Hat Pattern. After, proceed through this post for the directions to the other pieces of the hat.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
st(s) = stitches
sc = single crochet
yo = yarn over
sc2tog = single crochet two together (with one loop on hook, insert hook in 1st st indicated, pull up a loop, insert hook in next st indicated, pull up a loop, yo and pull through all three loops).

Tools:
- H hook
- worsted weight yarn in white, small amounts of yellow, black, and red (or any other accent color you'd like)
- large-eyed plastic needle

Ears (make 2):
Row 1: Using white ch 9, sc in 2nd st and each of the remaining sts. [8 sc]
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st and each of the remaining sts. [8 sc]
Rows 3-4: Repeat row 2.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog over 1st st and next st, sc in each of the next 4 sts, sc2tog over the next 2 sts. [6 sc]
Row 6: Ch 1, sc in same st and each of the remaining sts. [6 sc]
Row 7: Ch 1, sc2tog over 1st st and next st, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts. [4 sc]
Row 8: Ch 1, sc in same st and each of the remaining sts. [4 sc]
Row 9: Ch 1, sc2tog over 1st st and next st, sc2tog over next 2 sts. [2 sc]
Row 10: Ch 1, sc in same st and next st. [2 sc]
Row 11: Ch 1, sc2tog over same st and next st. [1 sc]
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Cut 2 strands in white approximately 3 times the length of the bottom of the ear. Use strand 1 to attach bottom right corner of ear to any st between rows 2 and 3, working down the side of the hat, continue to whipstitch ear to hat. Fasten off and weave in ends. Repeat for 2nd ear, but start at the bottom left corner of ear on opposite side of hat.

Eyes (make 2):
Row 1: Using black ch 4, sc in 2nd st from hook, sc in next st, 3 sc in last st. Now working down opposite side of ch, sc in next st, 2 sc in last st. Sl st to 1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Attach with a small amount of yarn to front of hat a few rows down (I eyeball it). Fasten off and weave in ends.

Nose:
Round 1: Using yellow ch 2, 8 sc in 2nd st from hook, sl st to 1st st.
Fasten off and weave in ends.

Attach with a small amount of same color yarn in middle of the front of the hat (once again, I eyeball it). Fasten off and weave in ends.

Whiskers:
Use a small amount of black yarn to weave in the whiskers, near the eyes. You can make them as long or as short as you want. I like mine to go across 5 sts on a newborn sized hat (I haven't made it in another size as of yet).

Braids:
Cut 8 strands of each the black, white, and accent color approximately 3 times the length you want the braids. Gather 4 strands of white and pull one end through st directly below edge of ear, in the last round of hat. Gather 4 strands of accent color and pull one end through 1 st to the left of the white. Gather 4 strands of black and pull one end through 1 st to the right of white. Pull ends through all sts so they are even. Braid all 3 groups of strands together. Tie off with a strand of any color. Repeat for other side. Cut-off ends so they are even.

hdc = half-double crochet
sl st = slip stitch

Tools:
- H hook
- small amount of white fun fur yarn
- small amount of light weight white yarn
- plastic yarn needle (this will be used to weave in ends)

Headband:
*Note: Pattern is written for size 0-6 months, with changes in parentheses respectively for sizes 6-12 months, 1-3yrs, and 3yrs-adult.

Ch 48 (54, 60, 66), sl st to 1st ch to form ring.
Row 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1st st), hdc in next ch and each of the remaining chs around, sl st to top of 1st st. [48 (54, 60, 66)]

Fasten off and weave in ends.

There ya go. That's the first pattern I have to post. I hope you all enjoy it.

Welcome to the Wednesdays Crafts Blog

Hey everyone. Originally my patterns were for sale on my facebook page for Wednesday's Crafts, but I decided to change that. I learned a lot while learning to crochet, from free patterns. So, I've decided to share that with everyone else.

I have a couple of requests for everyone that decides to use my patterns. Please give credit where credit is due. You know what that means. I don't care if you sell things you make from my patterns, I just ask that you give a link back to my blog here or even my facebook page. It would be greatly appreciated.
